Mike will be talking about his book From Sea to Service. The book begins with the miraculous rescue of a young boy, Marc Nguyen, from the terrors of the Vietnam war. After a rough start in New Orleans, he eventually settled in Boston. He excelled in school athletics and was accepted into the US Coast Guard Academy. He retired as a Coast Guard Commander in 2007. From Sea to Service is a story of remarkable determination, resilience and contribution that is an inspiration for all who struggle with daunting challenges. |

Filomena’s Restaurant | Members of the five clubs in Area 12 including Groton, Niantic, New London, Mystic and Waterford, will meet at Filomena’s in Waterford for a luncheon. Guest speakers will be Kathy Verano, Marie Kenny and Ken Edwards of Safe Futures. A new center for Safe Futures is being built on Rt 85 in Waterford to care for the needs of the women in the area. These folks will be giving an update on the center’s progress. | View | ||||

Lee has been arranging this luncheon in collaboration with New London Rotary for many years. The event dates back 70+ years. It will be held on Thursday, June 4th at noon at the CDR Merle J. Smith Consolidated Club at the USCG Academy. This year Lee would like to include the Groton Rotary Club. We are honored to be invited. Lee will be discussing the event at our meeting on May 12th. We look forward to hearing from him.
